Cajun conservative tradition and good ole bayou economics is never to throw anything away. After parties, weddings, graduations or whatever the occasion, fig and fruitcake leftovers that did not go home with relatives was not wasted. Crumbling, placing in the oven, and placing the crumbs in crocks after they cooled kept all family members in snacks for school or to take to the cane fields. My mom said however, that the little Creole children who lived down the bayou could not wait for the parties given at grandma's to be over. They knew grandma would invite them over for the "Crumbs." Hope you enjoy!
